About the Event
St Mary’s Church, Northchurch - Exhibition & guided tour
This ancient church was the original parish church of Berkhamsted. A small exhibition and talk will outline its history and a guided tour will include grave of Peter the Wild Boy and the War Memorial.
The oldest part of the church is probably Saxon, but in the 13th century the present chancel and transepts were built to form a more elaborate cruciform church. The present tower was built in the 15th century. There were various 19th century alterations. There are a number of interesting relics and monuments to many notable people, particularly one to Peter the Wild Boy. His grave has recently been given Grade II listing. The Prince of Wales is Patron to the living of St Mary.
