Join us at 8pm in the Parish Rooms on Tuesday 18 September for the next installment of the St Mary's Film Club; Denial.

Acclaimed writer and historian Deborah E. Lipstadt must battle for historical truth to prove the Holocaust actually occurred when David Irving, a renowned denier, sues her for libel.

In 1993 in her book, Denying the Holocaust, historian Deborah Lipstadt described David Irving as "one of the most dangerous spokespersons of Holocaust denial.”

Irving filed a libel law suit in the United Kingdom where the burden of proof lies on the defendant, not on the plaintiff. The film describes the trial and how what was at stake was more than the reputation of two people but the record of history itself. At a time when anti-Semitism remains in the news this film is a timely reminder of the danger of false ideas.
